INTRO
This is one of those projects that I never thought would do as well as it has done… I started Above Spartanburg on November 12th, in 2018. The whole concept was to be straight down drone shots around Spartanburg, South Carolina showcasing broken down abandon buildings. I ended up shelving the whole project in February due to dead grass and trees. I started back in April of 2019 when things started to bloom and look pretty again. The first shot back being a straight down of the Masonic Temple which is home to the Hub City Bookstore as well as a local Coffee shop. The Bookstore as well as the City Of Spartanburg and Visit Spartanburg began following my account and sharing my shots. I knew I had to start taking things serous now! I began researching locations on google maps of places I thought looked interesting all the while keeping in the City lines. Just incase I had the opportunity of having a book I thought it would be neat to have it all in the lines.
I went out almost every evening and morning I had free during the Spring and Summer and shot as much as I could. Oh, not to mention all of this was done by a mysterious person. I kept the identity of the page quiet because I didn’t want people basing their opinions on the page based off of who was running it. Once the page started to grow rapidly I put out that once I hit 1,000 followers I would reveal my identity.
I started collecting quite a few images. I set up a print store online in hopes of people purchasing prints just so I could fund my gas for driving to all of these places haha. Next on my list was to put together a book in time for Christmas. Well, around that time the Hub City Bookstore sent me a DM on Instagram wanting to chat with me. We ended up meeting up and discussed the opportunity of a book! Here’s the kicker… It had to be designed, put together, pages filled with new shots, and printed and back to us within the span of 2 or 3 months… Thats a fast turn around for anyone out there reading. But as you know by now, we have a book. The Amazing team of woman at the Bookstore pulled it off and now Spartanburg has its FIRST EVER Aerial Photo Book of our City. As long as I’m still in Spartanburg I will continue shooting and posting and hopefully there will be a Vol.2 in the near future!
